Research and planning - actors and actresses.

-  The use of mis en scene for the victims ( me ) hair is going to be down, the reason why we chose this is because it shows the victims ( me ) identity and makes it clear that the audience that the victim is like a normal girl and it doesn't give to much away about the victim ( me ) which makes it more of a suspense opening two minutes. We researched horror genre films which had the same character as the one we have used in our opening two minutes and they tend to have there hair down this was included in the ring which we decided to have our victims ( me ) hair like as it shall link with a horror genre film.

- In horror films the victims come across as innocent and vulnerable. The character ( me ) has long brown hair which fits the criteria for our storyline. The picture above shows how the characters going to be portrayed in the opening two minutes.

- For our opening two minutes we won't reveal the identity of the killer. However, a black out of the killer shall be shown. The reason why we chose Jordan is because he's the right shape and build for the character and matches what we want to include in our storyline and narrative.

Research and planning - location

- We have chosen to use this location as it makes it more mysterious as it looks like its in the middle of nowhere and anything could happen. As we are going to film our opening two minutes and edited to look like we filmed when it was dark it shall make it look more scary and horror film like rather than it being light which is when the use of mis en scene lighting is used in our opening two minutes which is an aspect included in films and the lighting of horror genre films tends to have a decrease in brightness effects when theres a victim about to be approach from the antagonist which creates more of a mysterious effect within the opening two minutes.

- The location we have chosen shall make our horror more of a horror genre film and make it more unpredictable as anything could happen and the audience shall want to know what happens for the rest of the narrative and storyline.

- These pictures of the location we have chosen links with our chosen film name which is 'pathway'. The use of mis en scene location used in our opening two minutes shows a pathway which is quiet. As the victim is on her own down the pathway and is being watched by the antagonist without her knowing shall make it more of a suspense towards the audience and create more tension which is what horror genre films include and in opening two minutes it sets the storyline and narrative which is include in opening two minutes.

Research and planning - the name of our film.

Research and planning - names for our horror film.

Research and planning - horror genre

- Horror films genres aim to create a sense of fear, panic, alarm, and dread for the audience. These films are often unsettling and rely on scaring the audience through a portrayal of their worst fears and nightmares. Horror films usually center on the arrival of an evil force, person, or event. Many Horror films include mythical creatures such as ghosts, vampires, and zombies. Traditionally, Horror films incorporate a large amount of violence and gore into the plot. Though it has its own style, Horror film often includes fantasy, thriller, and science-fiction genres.

Research and planning - horror genres.

-Comedy-Horror
-Comedy-Horror combines comedy with traditional horror movie themes and characters. Because of the subject matter, Comedy-Horror films can cross over into the Black Comedy sub-genre. Comedy-Horror films aim to scare the audience, but also provide comical outlets that let the audience laugh at their fear.
-Examples: Beetlejuice, Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead.
-Teen-Horror
-Teen-Horror is a sub-genre that revolves completely around a teenager or a group of teenagers. Typically, these movies have a large cast and a clear hero or heroine. Teen-Horror films often play upon traditional teenage issues, such as dating and prom, and turn them into suspenseful and thrilling situations.
-Examples: I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
-Monster-Horror
-A Monster film is sub-genre of Horror that centers on a struggle between human beings and a monster.Often, the monster in the film has been created in an “experiment gone wrong.” The monster usually serves as a villain, and the film portrays a hero or heroine that ultimately saves the world from the monster. Although these movies commonly fall into the Horror genre, Monster films have a long tradition within Science-Fiction and Fantasy film as well.
-Examples: Aliens, Godzilla, Creature from the Black Lagoon.
-Slasher
-Slasher film is a sub-genre of Horror film that revolves around a psychopathic killer. This killer stalks and murders his victims in extremely violent and memorable ways. Though it centers on a specific killer, the violence is what sets Slasher films apart from other horror films. A Slasher film will devote more screen time to portray murder and mayhem than a traditional Horror film.
-Examples: Halloween, My Bloody Valentine, Black Christmas.
-Supernatural-Horror
-Supernatural-Horror film is a sub-genre that includes ghosts, demons, or other depictions of supernatural occurrences. Often, Supernatural-Horror films combine elements of religion into the plot. Common themes in Supernatural-Horror films include the afterlife, the devil, and demonic possession. Unlike Religious Thrillers, Supernatural-Horror films are not limited to specific religious elements and can contain more vivid and gruesome violence.
-Examples: The Exorcist, The Ring, The Omen.
-Zombie-Horror
-Zombie film is a sub-genre of Horror film that portrays mindless human beings who are raised from the dead. These films often include a Zombie invasion, and center around Zombies feasting on human flesh. The plot of a Zombie film then revolves around the struggle between the living, and the living-dead. Zombie film not only falls into the Horror genre, but Sci-Fi, Thriller, and Comedy as well.
-Examples: Night of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later.

Research and planning - answers to questionnaire

- For our questionnaire we had 20 respondents. We asked different people so we could gather more information about what makes a good opening two minutes and what people like. By asking a mix of people shall show that everyone likes different things in a horror. However, this wasn't the case. The majority of people we asked had similar feedback and similar answers. The results showed that everyone we asked likes similar horror films. We asked eight questions which were included in the questionnaire, these questions would give the information we need for our opening two minutes.

1. For question one we asked 'Do you like to see the killer in the opening two minutes?' the answers we got from the respondents varied on this one

- ' yes, i like to see the killer during the opening two minutes as i know who to look out for during the film so i'm not in much of a suspense, as i don't like the tension of the horror.'
However, the majority of the respondents said

-' I don't like knowing who the killer is until the bit wear the person gets killed or whatever. I like the suspense and the tense moment of it. I like the way it builds up and makes it more of a horror.

2. For question two we asked ' What do you think should be included in a horror film?'
-Death scene     6/20

- Gruesome       7/20

- Violence         4/20

- Others             3/20 - paranormal activity.

3. For the third question we asked ' Which horror genre do you find the most scariest?'

- Thriller

- Comedy horror

- Teen horror

- Monster horror

- Slasher

- Supernatural horror

- Zombie horror

- Others
- Out of the horror genres i asked supernataural was the most popular horror genre. This is the horror genre we have chosen for our horror film as it allows us to experiment with different ideas.

4. For the fourth question we asked ' Do you think the sound and music used gives me of an effect within the horror?'

- Yes      20/20

- No        0/20

- All of the respondents answered that music gives the horror film and the opening two minutes more of an effect. As it creates tension and builds up to the significant part of the film.

5. For the fifth question we asked ' How often do you see horror films? '

- Whenever i feel like it 16/20

-Every month  1/20

- Every two months  2/12

- Whenever theres a new horror out. 1/20

- From this question you can infer that people watch horrors whenever they feel like it.

6. For the sixth question we asked ' In an opening two minutes what would you like to see?'

- For this question the majority of people answered with similar answers. That they like to include the victims so the audeince get to know them so they feel more engaged and involved within the horror film.

7. For the seventh question we asked ' Would you like the opening two minutes to give much away about the narrartive and the storyline?'

- The majoirty of people said that they like it to build up to the most significant scene as its more of a mystery.

8. For the eighth question we asked  'Do you think there should be a single antagonist or more than one?'
- The respondents said that they would prefer there to be one anatagonist.

- From this questionnaire its given us more information about what people like for a horror film.

Research and planning - certificate U film

-The ‘U’ symbol stands for ‘Universal’. A ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. However, it is impossible to predict what might upset a particular child, especially at this lower end of the category range.
- Only mild language shall be included in the U films.
- No strong sexual or violent scenes shall be shown.
- Films that would pass a U certificate film are targeted at a younger audience like the film toy story.
- No drugs shall be shown unless there shown in a anti- drug way.
- People who are more of a young age tend to watch these films.

Research and planning - certificate PG film

-PG’ stands for Parental Guidance. This means a film is suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for younger children. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. Parents should consider whether the content might upset younger or more sensitive children.
-There could be mild lnaguage included but not strong language which isn't inapporpriate for the younger generation ears.
-PG’ works can explore challenging issues such as domestic violence, bereavement or racism. Smoking and drinking shall'nt be seen as something good and won't be promoted in a good way and if it does appear in a film it shall be seen as a bad thing. Also they shouldn't include detail of violence and it could effect the audeince.

Research and planning - certificate 12A film

- In a 12A there isn't expected to show much as its for children who are 12 and over. In some scenes there might be some sexual and violent scenes but nothing to bad which is inappropriate for 12 year olds.
- In 12A films they've just got to be careful with what they include.
- Horror films are included in the 12A films as long as its not too disturbing for the audeince to take.

Research and planning - certificate 15 film

-The issues you find with a 15 film

-examples of this

- strong violence
- strong language can occur
- portrayals of sexual activity
- strong verbal references to sex
- sexual nudity
- brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
- discriminatory language or behaviour
- drug taking
- For a horror there can be gory and grusome scenes which aren't suitable for under 15s.

Research and planning - certificate 18 film

- Noone under 18 is allowed to see an 18 film at the cinema or by or rent one as its not suitable for children.

- There are many issues you can find in a film with an 18 certificate
-strong violence

Research and planning - 1980s poster analysis

-The Fog, this movie would be suited for an adult audience for the16-24 age group, because theimage of the main character looks like a young adult and it feels like it would suit that age group. Firstly, we see 4 main colours, red being the main colour, which had made the title of the film, represents blood, passion and just pure evil, to make the audience feel uneasy or scared and it also makes it stand out, the red drips from the the title also represent blood which represents the blood dripping from a victim, which could also represent violence and harm and will inflicted onto the victim from the killer -We also see a mixture of grey, green and black in the background, which makes it feel its a sort of graveyard, misty feel, which drags the audience into the poster, making them feel that they are there within the poster.
-The facial expressions in the poster show horror, excitement and astonishment, these are essential to a horror movie, as it brings in the target audience into the movie. The face on the poster takes up a third of the poster which highlights the presence of fear, which will surround the presence of fear in the movie.
-There is one main character in the film, which shows the importance to bring in a huge audience as they wouldve heard of the name before. In movie posters, the celebrities name is at the top, stereotypically for the 'star factor' and for the celebrities name being at the top is so the audiences eyes would be drawn to the name.
-This film has followed the convosations of being a horror genre as the victim in the poster as being female. This is cause females are often chosen as victims in horror movies as they are thought to be vulverable and that they are weaker than men, therefore still being vulnerable to the actions of the villian.

Research and planning - analysis of poster

A lot has changed over the last 30 years, horror movie wise, as the movies get more scarier and the budgets get higher and also as technology grows everyday, we see that there has been a huge difference on how the film industry presents their movies on posters, from the 1980's to the present day.

Insidious was produced and released in 2010, and was made by the makers of Saw and Paranormal activity, as we can see at the top of the poster.

Insidious is in the horror movie genre and the target audience for this film would be teenagers/ young adults e.g 16-24. The film poster for 'Insidious' follows the codes and conventions of a horror film poster; The audiences eyes moves straight to the main image, which is the boy, it dominates most of the page. He is wearing a red shirt, which could represent blood and death. The shot is a medium close up, clearly showing his face and eyes, which stand out the most. They look like they have been scratched out by the nails of the evil spirit. They are also white, which usually represents innocents but in this case would represent the supernatural. He has a very blank facial expression, he almost looks numb which links in with the fact that in the film, he is in a coma. The tag line is placed at the bottom of the page, just beneath the film title. It's a light blue colour, representing a the feeling of coldness and emptiness, it also links in with the colours of the background which is also mainly light blue. It's placed in a location where the audience would look next, after they see the title of the film, that way they will know what it is that they should fear which is the boy as the tag line is 'its not the house is haunted'which gives clues as to what the narrative is, and tells us it's the boy that is possessed. On the film poster, we see ratings from a source, probably film critics, who has watched the film before hand, this would also attract the audience because the critics have given the film 5 stars which will bring in a bigger target audience as it has good reports.

Research and planning - sinister film poster analyse

#

- Sinister is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. It follows true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt Ethan Hawke as he discovers a box of home movies that puts his family in danger
- This film poster links exactly with the film. It shows the title in a way where its been written like someones controlled the person who written it. As its in black and it looks as if water has smudged it out which gives the impression of people being controlled by a main person. Which links to the girl dragging her hand across the wall with blood going across it.The way the body language of the girl is protayed links with the title as it looks like the girl is being controlled. Like shes in a dream or sleep walking. Like a zoombie.

Research and planning - brief analyse of our opening two minutes

The film made by Bryony, James, Jordan and I, will be carefully structured and thought out before put into film as we don't want to rush and make mistakes and errors. We decided on a horror purely because I find it the most exciting out of all genres and it really grips the audience the most aimed at an age group which would be more likely to watch more films in their spare time. We have analysed and done background research on horror films which we have also done a few blogs on to give a few ideas on what features our film will contain. There are certain skills and techniques used in horror films to give off effects to scare the audience and intrigue them more into what the plot is. I will give an example as to the camera angles, shots, and techniques we'll be using in our short video clip to the film.

These skills would be:
Zoom- This is used when they want the audience to see something specific about what is on camera, it could be emotion on the characters face or it could be an object of some sort.
Two shot- Commonly used when two people are having either a casual conversation giving vital information or they are interacting about what has happened previously when they want the audience to pay attention to what they're saying.
Long shot- This will be used to give someone a view of the surroundings and the character involved. This will be effective in the scary parts in our small horror film clip as it is commonly used in most other horror films.
Extreme long shot- This will be the shot that we use mostly and this is because you can see a slight outline of the character but not details, it also focuses more on the setting so that the audience don't know too much about the character and it adds suspense.

Research and planning - genres

Research and planning - film title analyse

- This film title is from the 1980s. The use of the colour red infers many things. Examples of this could be that the colour red resembles to death and danger. Which shows that the film is going to be mysterious and gruesome. Which shall make the audeince question about whats going to go on in the film as they might have an idea of whats going to happen. The title comes across as clever as we can interpret and infer as the colour of the writing is red and the letter 'o' has been shaped in a heart with a knife going through which infers that theres going to be a heartache and a murder of a mother.

Research and planning - including text within our opening two minutes

- The reason why we are going to use text in our opening two minutes is because its more effective and it shall give the film and real feel to it and make it look more professional which is what the film industry mainly do.
- We are going to include
- The music producer
- The editing producer
- The cast and producer
- The person who made the film
- The film company that produces our film
-This gives it more of an impact on the film and more information about it.

-Its good to use text in the opening of the two minutes of a film because it makes it more effective and gives more information about the film so the audience can feel like they know the film and who made and produced it. It gives a sense of engagement and involvement within the film.
-By showing the cast and the characters makes it more interesting and so that people know whoes going to be included in the film. For instance, if people liked an actor or an actress whoes involved in the film it shall make them more interested and it shall make the film more popular. Which would be good for the film producer and the money towards the film and the filming industry.
-By saying whoes the music producer, the editing producer and who made the film gives it more input as it shows that not just one person has made the film but more than one has been involved in making the film which shows that it was hard work and you had to do more than one thing to make the film good. By using text just gives it that little bit extra and makes it more effective and goes well with the film itself.

Research and planning - order of text included in opening two minute films

- A waverly film production, is the first thing included in the opening two minutes.
- The second thing is the person who made the film which was nancy meyers.
- Furthermore, we see the names of the characters and actors invovled within the film, from the main character.
-Then it says 'the holiday' which infers that the film is about to start. By introducing things about the film to begin with makes it more effective and gives more information about the film before it starts.
- Then it indroduces the people who casted the film and about who does the music and then the costume desginer then who its editied by and the production desgin and then the direction of photography and then the executive producer and who the film is prodcued by
- Overall, the order of the text included about the music, editing, and the cast of the film makes it more effective and goes well with whats going on in the opening two minutes of the film. Which gets the audeince more invloled and engaged within the film.

- Order of text
- The first to appear is the production company
- Followed by a large pause
- Director
- Gap
- 4 main characters appear after eachother with short gaps inbetween
- Pause
- Supporting characters
- Cast
- Composer
- Gap
- Costume desinger
- Editor
- Production designer
- Director of photography
- Exectutive producer
-  Producer

Research and planning - ideas for our opening two minutes

-For the opening two minutes of our horror film. We have chosen for the beginning of the scene is the main character- Emma. Walking down a path with wet hair to give the impression that she's vulnerable, alone and innocent. I shall be wearing basic casual wear which contradicts the look of my wet hair and gives the sense of foreboding, Bryony as the camera person shall use effects to scare the audience and to make it more tense- shaking the camera, long shots and close up shots.
-Example of a long shot.

-Example of close up shots.

-The reason why we've chosen to use there shot types is because we want to get more of an effect towards the audience and we want them to engage with the horror film and to feel involved so they feel tense and there anxiety builds up.
-We won't just be using long shots and close ups shots, we shall also be using extreme close ups, and camera shots which link with whats going on with the scene at the time.
-For the opening two minutes we won't be using that many shot types as its only for two minutes and if we did use more it shall just make the opening two minutes look like a mess and that it hasn't been organised properly which won't look professional. Which isn't a good for the opening two minutes.

-The scene is set at night down a path which runs through the woods to a clearing bridge over a river. By using this setting for the opening two minutes shall already give an impression on the audience about what the film is going to be about and whats going to be involved which shall make the audience question it which makes them more engaged and involved with the horror film.
-As the camera follows me - Emma whilst I'm walking down the path till I reach the bridge over the river.
-We use jump cuts of the camera getting closer and closer to me and through this all we are going to see is the back of my head. By doing this and not showing my face shall make the audience want to see my face and it shall make the audience question the facial expressions and the look on my face.

-Once on the bridge i shall look down at the water as if I'm going to jump. The camera shall pan to the side keeping me in the shot to show the black figure behind me in the woods. Then the camera cuts to the view of me from the perspective of the figure concealed in the darkness and approaches me until directly behind me as we can hear the heavy rugged breathing.
-I spin around and scream and the screen goes black. When we see my face it shall be made to look pale and i have black rings around my eyes, when I scream we distort my face for the added effect which is always good for a horror film as they are usually effective.
-The next scene shows James and Jordan as we don't see Jordan's face in the first scene we can use him as a different character watching the news report the next day. The reporter shall reveal the disappearance of a teenage girl which I me. Which makes the 1,2,3,4 and 5 year anniversary to the day of the disappearances in the same place. This makes it more of a mysterious and the person has got a way with it which makes it more scary for the audience and makes it more tense towards the audience.

Research and planning - location and makeup ideas

- The use of mise-en scene for our location we chose woods and a dark pathway which links with the narrative of the film and the genre of horror. Its a good location as it shall make the film more mysterious. Especially the part when we show a figure of a person behind a tree. Which makes it have more tension.

-By using a dark location makes the setting more mysterious and has more of a secret to whats going to happen and it shall enhance the dark shadow figure in the trees for the first two minutes of our horror film. Its a typical location for a horror film. The lighting of the effects is a low lighting which has a decrease in the lighting which creates more of an effect which emphasises the figure of the antagonist behind the tree within our opening two minutes.

- By using this has more of an effect to the character and the audience and gives me of an impression that shes been outside and its been raining. So it shall link with the rest of the narrative and storyline  And it shows that it's not just staged but the main character has been out in the woods all night and that it's been raining and it makes and creates more of an effect of on the opening two minutes and narrative and the horror genre.

Research and planning - opening two minutes ideas

Research and planning - audience profiling

-From this comparable profile of the ring i can infer that the age range of 15-24 has a higher percentage of watching the ring than the other age generation. From the table i can infer that more female watch the ring with a percentage of 54% and the percentage of male is 46%. The percenatge of class range from 16-45% which is a difference. The largest percentage of viewers come from the middle upper class. This shows and infers that the main audeince that watch this film range from 15-24year olds which are females and are the middle upper class this is because its a gorry film and it shows that the older generation dont like gorry films. The reason why more females watch this is because they relate to whats going on in the film and using a child appeals to a matunral instinct. From this for our opening two minutes we are going to include a younger cast which shall make it appeal to a younger audience.

The orphan
- From this comparable profile of the orphan i can infer that the age range of 15-24 has a higher percentage of watching the ring than the other age generation. Furthermore, its an even split between male and female and who watches it the most and its more seen by middle upper class. This is similar to the ring.

Research and planning - audience profiling

Scream 3.
- In this comparable profile the age rate of people who watch this film is people aged between 15-24 which has a percentage of 57% and ages 4-6, 7-11 and 12-14 have the lowest percentage of people that watch the film. Both male and females like to watch this film there equal percentages with the male with 52% and women with 48%. Middle- class watch this film. The films i have done a comparable profile for are similar types of films to our film which has the same audiences we want our film to appeal to both male and female and middle- class.

Research and planning - evaluation preliminary task

- Overall, the preliminary task went well. We had good use of camera shots which made it more effective and the 180degree rule was also effective. Which made the film continous and went with the flow.
-However, we made some mistakes which we would improve for next time. For instant as we was filiming we stopped and started the camera which made a clicking noise which we could hear over the dialouge and the whole of the clip. So next time we would make sure that we cant hear the click or cut it out. Another improvement we shall make is that james disapeared as soon as he stopped speaking, which makes it confusing for the audeince and doesnt go with the flow.
-Overall, it wasnt a bad preliminary task but next time we shall improve it. To make it more effective and better.

Research and planning - preliminary task view

-In my group we have been doing a preliminary task which contists of filiming a conversation using different shot types. The shot types we included are medium shot, close up shot, long shot, high shot, low angle shot, two shot and over the shoulder shot.
- Our preliminary task is a job interview. It shows the interviewer sitting down waiting outside the room to get interviewed. Included in this shot is a close up of the interviewee looking nervous and worried. This is effective as it infers that the interviewee is uptight and nervous and it shall make the audience feel more engaged with the character and the narrative of the clip. After that the interviewee looks at her watch then gets up and walks towards the door. Then the interviewee opens the door which includes a close up shot to the door handle when she opens. By having a close up of the door it will make the audience feel like there entering the room aswell. Then the interviewee enters the room and appraches and is welcomed by the interviewer. The interviewer asks for the information-CV. They have a conversation which includeds the interviewer getting the job. The shot we used for this part of our preliminary task is over the shoulder shot which has an impact on the audience and makes the audience feel like they're included in the conversation. Then we use a two shot whilst they're still speaking which shows that we can use a variety of shot types.
 - The prelimiary task took 3hours as we had to re-film the clip a few times as we got the shot types wrong as we didn't plan it to make it more cimple and organised.
- The reason why we used the shot types we chose is because we thought they fitted in with the dialouge and the narrative of the clip.
- One thing we could improve next time is using a different variety of shot types and spending more time on planning so we know what we are doing so its more organised.
-Overall, i was pleased with our preliminary task and happy with the result of the clip. Even though we repeated the same shot types we still used some variety which made it more interesting and shall make the audeince feel more engaged with the clip which is a positive for the preliminary task.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of the women in black analysis

- I am going to analyse and comment on the first two opening minutes of the horror genre.
-The first film i'm going to study is the first two opening minutes of the women in black which is a 2012 horror-thriller film directed by James Watkins and written by Jane Goldman, and is based on Susan Hill's novel of the same name. It was produced by Hammer Film Productions. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds, Janet McTeer, Sophie Stuckey and Liz white.

- The first two minutes of the women in black presents itself with tension. From the way the music is portrayed which is slow and makes the audience feel that something is going to happen and lead on to something. As the music repeats itself it seems to get louder and louder and faster and faster which infers that something bad is going to happen which shall make the audience feel tense and question about what is going to happen which makes the audience feel engaged. and ending of the music turns into the 'mum' shouting and saying 'my babys' which links well with the music.
-By starting of with three children makes more of an impact to what the narrative of the film is going to be as it shall make the audience assume and know that the horror is going to be based on children and that they have a big role within the film.
-The way the children are dressed shows that its not based from this generation which shows good use of mis-en-scene. As the opening two minutes comes to an end there is a doll included in the clip which creates tension and causes more of an effect as the doll looks scary and its more of a horror cliche.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of sinister analysis

-Sinister is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. It follows true-crime writer Ellison- Ethan Hawke as he discovers a box of home movies that put his family in danger.
- The opening scene of sinister shows a family moving into a house which is a horror cliche as horror films usually are plotted in houses which is good use of mis-en-scene. It makes the audience know that its going to be scary and shall cause tension because the audience shall feel like they know what is about to happen. They can infer from the location of the film. It makes the audience question about whats going to happen which is a social value of the genre of horror.
-The music of the first opening two minutes links with what the narrative is and the clip. Furthermore, it gives the audience an idea of how the film is going to be portrayed. Which is a horror cliche.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of step brothers analysis

-Step Brothers is a 2008 American buddy slapstick comedy film starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. The screenplay was written by Ferrell and Adam McKay, from a story written by them with Reilly. It was produced by Jimmy Miller and Judd Apatow, and directed by McKay.
- The plot of step brothersis two unemployed, middle-aged and spoiled men who still live with and are reliant on their parents. They have no intention of moving out or finding jobs and behave childishly. When Brennan's mother Nancy -Mary Steenburgen and Dale's father Robert -Richard Jenkins- marry. Furthermore Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. Their parents warn them that they must find jobs within a month or else be forced out of the house. When Brennan's younger brother Derek -Adam Scott comes to visit with his oddly perfect family, he too mocks them and entices Dale to punch him in the face. Brennan is awed that Dale was able to stand up to Derek. Meanwhile, Brennan's sister-in-law Alice -Kathryn Hahn who is also resentful of Derek, finds Dale's courage a turn on. Brennan and Dale discover their many shared interests and develop a strong personal bond.
-However, the first two minutes of the film you can see that its going to be a comedy as we see two middle aged men who have to become step-brothers and live together as there parents get married. The two middle aged men are seen to be in there late 30s which links to it being a comedy film as its not shown as serious and we see one of the sons who makes coco pops and nachos which is a steroype of a youth more so than a late 30s man who you wouldnt imagine to see having a bowl of coco pops. Furthermore, we see the other son who is playing guitar hero which is sterotypically a younger generations games and you would see aman of that age playing it with there kids or for fun with there family and not by themseleves taking it seriously.
-Mis-en-scene is used during the film, the costumes of the boys are quite child like and more of a younger generation and you wouldn't expect a late 30 year old man to wear them. The location of the film shows the house where they are all going to live so it gives the audience an indication of where the film is going to based.
- Overall, the first 2minutes of the film shows where the film is going to be based and located and whoes involved in the film and what type of characters they are and what the narative is going to lead to. Which infers to the audeince the storyline.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of the holiday analysis

-The holiday is a Romantic comedy produced and directed by Nancy Meyers. It stars Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, who temporarily exchange homes to escape heartbreak during the holiday season. Jude Law and Jack Black co-star, with Eli Wallach, Shannyn Sossamon, Edward Burns and Rufus Sewell playing key supporting roles.
- From the opening two minutes you can instantly infer that its a romance genre. I can interpret this from the music and how we are intorduced to all of the characters included and involved in the film. The music is slow and classical which links to it being a romantic comedy and links with the storyline and the audeince can instantly suggest and imply that its a romance. The music links with introducing the characters, as they do it one by one. Firstly, it introduces Rufus Sewell and his fiance where the audience can infer that hes in love with her. Secondly we are introduced to  cameron diaz and her husband and we can distinguish that she isnt happy with him and theyve had some kind of problems. Furthermore, we are introduced to Jude law and him in a club or a bar having eye contact with a girl then we are introdued to his sister who is played by Kate Winslet who we see by herself wrapping a present in an office which we can have ideas and and question about whats going to happen in the narrative as we can infer that she is lonley and doesnt have any sort of lovelife or shes just had a breakup which links to romantic comedy cliches. By introducing these characters shows that these are the main characters and that they are more provance and significant during the film.
-There is use of mis-en-scene in the first opening clip, the clothing, the setting, location and sound and dialouge. The costumes of the characters are shown to be causual for there parts in the film. However, Cameron Diaz comes across as more posh as she wheres more sophisitcated clothes and looks more expensive. We see Cameron Diaz having own driver which infers that shes got a good job and is well looked after and has done well for herself. Whereas, Kate Winslet is shown in a different light as she doesnt look as weathly as Cameron Diaz even though she is still seen to be middle class but Cameron Diaz has more of a status.
- The setting of the first two minutes of the film shows an idealistic gardern scence which presents a couple kissing which infers that its related to a romance genre.
-Overall,the audeince can instantly infer that its a romantic comedy by mis-en-scene,the sound clips and how the characters are potrayed and what type of characters there going to be like and it gets the plot of the narative and storyline.

Research and planning - love actually opening two minutes analysis

-Love Actually is a 2003 British Christmas themed romantic comedy film written and directed by Richard Curtis. The screenplay delves into different aspects of love as shown through ten separate stories involving a wide variety of individuals, many of whom are shown to be interlinked as their tales progress. The ensemble cast is composed predominantly of British actors.
Set in London, the film begins five weeks before Christmas and is played out in a weekly countdown until the holiday, followed by an epilogue that takes place one month later.
- The opening two minutes of love actually shows the text of film producer, music producer, editing producer. This makes it more professional and a feel to the film.
-The beginning of the film just shows people hugging and kissing which links with the name of the film 'love' actually. Which infers that its a genre of romance.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of casino royale analysis

The opening first two minutes of casino royale.

The first two minutes of casino royale you can instantly infer that its an action film. Casino royale is a James bond film. By studying the first two minutes of the film has already made an impact on my perception of what the film is going to be about. The first two minutes of the film introduces the main character James bond and what looks like some kind of enemy. We get shown guns which instantly suggests to the audience that some kind of killing is shown which would make the audience feel tense. The music set with the opening first two minutes links well with whats happening and the narrative at that point. The speaking and language used by the characters is known to be a good cliche for an action film.
As the two minutes continues we see flashbacks which makes the story line have an extra as something has already happened to cause the action and the use of guns which explains to the audience and makes it more clear.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of the ring analysis

The film the ring is a mainstream horror film. It introduces some cliches which are included in the horror genre of films. The opening two minutes of the film shows two teenage girls having a night in watching television then one of the girls spontanously came out with this new video that if you watch it you shall die in seven days. The other girl had a worried look on her face and admitted that she has seen that video which gets the audeince to get the storyline of the film.
Some of the cliches used in the ring are that the teenage girls are home alone and usually in horror films teens are known to be spolied brats and they deserve to die the film does this by using a sterotype of typical american girls who think there better than everyone else and who like to belittle people so this will get the audience thinking that these two girls are the target of the horror film and it will make the audience also have an instant judgement on the two american girls. The opening two minutes captures tension as when the girl speaks about the video and that you die within seven days if youve approached and watched the video it goes all silent and shall make the audeince feel thats something big is going to happen. It will get the audiences adrenaline and anxiety levels up as it shall make them feel engaged and apart of the horror film as they will be questioning about whats going to happen next and it gives a social side of things as the audience will be speaking about what they believe is going to happen next. During the first 2minutes of the film you are introduced to the two main characters and the outline of the story and whats going to be included in the horror film. The 2minutes of horror films or films in general don't tend to have much going on its brief and basic so it doesn't give the whole narrative and story-line away. The first 2minutes of the ring mentions an important bit about the horror film which was if you've watched the video your going to die in seven days and the cliches mentioned for horror films have been included in the first 2minutes and another cliche has been included just after the 2minutes which was never answer the phone in a horror movie so what happens in the ring? the phone rings and one of the american girls answers it. This always infers and shows to the audience that something bad is about to happen which will create tension towards the audience and will be questioning whats going to happen next. This makes the audience feel engaged with the film.
