Research and planning - opening two minutes of the women in black analysis

- I am going to analyse and comment on the first two opening minutes of the horror genre.
-The first film i'm going to study is the first two opening minutes of the women in black which is a 2012 horror-thriller film directed by James Watkins and written by Jane Goldman, and is based on Susan Hill's novel of the same name. It was produced by Hammer Film Productions. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds, Janet McTeer, Sophie Stuckey and Liz white.

- The first two minutes of the women in black presents itself with tension. From the way the music is portrayed which is slow and makes the audience feel that something is going to happen and lead on to something. As the music repeats itself it seems to get louder and louder and faster and faster which infers that something bad is going to happen which shall make the audience feel tense and question about what is going to happen which makes the audience feel engaged. and ending of the music turns into the 'mum' shouting and saying 'my babys' which links well with the music.
-By starting of with three children makes more of an impact to what the narrative of the film is going to be as it shall make the audience assume and know that the horror is going to be based on children and that they have a big role within the film.
-The way the children are dressed shows that its not based from this generation which shows good use of mis-en-scene. As the opening two minutes comes to an end there is a doll included in the clip which creates tension and causes more of an effect as the doll looks scary and its more of a horror cliche.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of sinister analysis

-Sinister is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. It follows true-crime writer Ellison- Ethan Hawke as he discovers a box of home movies that put his family in danger.
- The opening scene of sinister shows a family moving into a house which is a horror cliche as horror films usually are plotted in houses which is good use of mis-en-scene. It makes the audience know that its going to be scary and shall cause tension because the audience shall feel like they know what is about to happen. They can infer from the location of the film. It makes the audience question about whats going to happen which is a social value of the genre of horror.
-The music of the first opening two minutes links with what the narrative is and the clip. Furthermore, it gives the audience an idea of how the film is going to be portrayed. Which is a horror cliche.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of step brothers analysis

-Step Brothers is a 2008 American buddy slapstick comedy film starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. The screenplay was written by Ferrell and Adam McKay, from a story written by them with Reilly. It was produced by Jimmy Miller and Judd Apatow, and directed by McKay.
- The plot of step brothersis two unemployed, middle-aged and spoiled men who still live with and are reliant on their parents. They have no intention of moving out or finding jobs and behave childishly. When Brennan's mother Nancy -Mary Steenburgen and Dale's father Robert -Richard Jenkins- marry. Furthermore Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. Their parents warn them that they must find jobs within a month or else be forced out of the house. When Brennan's younger brother Derek -Adam Scott comes to visit with his oddly perfect family, he too mocks them and entices Dale to punch him in the face. Brennan is awed that Dale was able to stand up to Derek. Meanwhile, Brennan's sister-in-law Alice -Kathryn Hahn who is also resentful of Derek, finds Dale's courage a turn on. Brennan and Dale discover their many shared interests and develop a strong personal bond.
-However, the first two minutes of the film you can see that its going to be a comedy as we see two middle aged men who have to become step-brothers and live together as there parents get married. The two middle aged men are seen to be in there late 30s which links to it being a comedy film as its not shown as serious and we see one of the sons who makes coco pops and nachos which is a steroype of a youth more so than a late 30s man who you wouldnt imagine to see having a bowl of coco pops. Furthermore, we see the other son who is playing guitar hero which is sterotypically a younger generations games and you would see aman of that age playing it with there kids or for fun with there family and not by themseleves taking it seriously.
-Mis-en-scene is used during the film, the costumes of the boys are quite child like and more of a younger generation and you wouldn't expect a late 30 year old man to wear them. The location of the film shows the house where they are all going to live so it gives the audience an indication of where the film is going to based.
- Overall, the first 2minutes of the film shows where the film is going to be based and located and whoes involved in the film and what type of characters they are and what the narative is going to lead to. Which infers to the audeince the storyline.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of the holiday analysis

-The holiday is a Romantic comedy produced and directed by Nancy Meyers. It stars Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, who temporarily exchange homes to escape heartbreak during the holiday season. Jude Law and Jack Black co-star, with Eli Wallach, Shannyn Sossamon, Edward Burns and Rufus Sewell playing key supporting roles.
- From the opening two minutes you can instantly infer that its a romance genre. I can interpret this from the music and how we are intorduced to all of the characters included and involved in the film. The music is slow and classical which links to it being a romantic comedy and links with the storyline and the audeince can instantly suggest and imply that its a romance. The music links with introducing the characters, as they do it one by one. Firstly, it introduces Rufus Sewell and his fiance where the audience can infer that hes in love with her. Secondly we are introduced to  cameron diaz and her husband and we can distinguish that she isnt happy with him and theyve had some kind of problems. Furthermore, we are introduced to Jude law and him in a club or a bar having eye contact with a girl then we are introdued to his sister who is played by Kate Winslet who we see by herself wrapping a present in an office which we can have ideas and and question about whats going to happen in the narrative as we can infer that she is lonley and doesnt have any sort of lovelife or shes just had a breakup which links to romantic comedy cliches. By introducing these characters shows that these are the main characters and that they are more provance and significant during the film.
-There is use of mis-en-scene in the first opening clip, the clothing, the setting, location and sound and dialouge. The costumes of the characters are shown to be causual for there parts in the film. However, Cameron Diaz comes across as more posh as she wheres more sophisitcated clothes and looks more expensive. We see Cameron Diaz having own driver which infers that shes got a good job and is well looked after and has done well for herself. Whereas, Kate Winslet is shown in a different light as she doesnt look as weathly as Cameron Diaz even though she is still seen to be middle class but Cameron Diaz has more of a status.
- The setting of the first two minutes of the film shows an idealistic gardern scence which presents a couple kissing which infers that its related to a romance genre.
-Overall,the audeince can instantly infer that its a romantic comedy by mis-en-scene,the sound clips and how the characters are potrayed and what type of characters there going to be like and it gets the plot of the narative and storyline.

Research and planning - love actually opening two minutes analysis

-Love Actually is a 2003 British Christmas themed romantic comedy film written and directed by Richard Curtis. The screenplay delves into different aspects of love as shown through ten separate stories involving a wide variety of individuals, many of whom are shown to be interlinked as their tales progress. The ensemble cast is composed predominantly of British actors.
Set in London, the film begins five weeks before Christmas and is played out in a weekly countdown until the holiday, followed by an epilogue that takes place one month later.
- The opening two minutes of love actually shows the text of film producer, music producer, editing producer. This makes it more professional and a feel to the film.
-The beginning of the film just shows people hugging and kissing which links with the name of the film 'love' actually. Which infers that its a genre of romance.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of casino royale analysis

The opening first two minutes of casino royale.

The first two minutes of casino royale you can instantly infer that its an action film. Casino royale is a James bond film. By studying the first two minutes of the film has already made an impact on my perception of what the film is going to be about. The first two minutes of the film introduces the main character James bond and what looks like some kind of enemy. We get shown guns which instantly suggests to the audience that some kind of killing is shown which would make the audience feel tense. The music set with the opening first two minutes links well with whats happening and the narrative at that point. The speaking and language used by the characters is known to be a good cliche for an action film.
As the two minutes continues we see flashbacks which makes the story line have an extra as something has already happened to cause the action and the use of guns which explains to the audience and makes it more clear.

Research and planning - opening two minutes of the ring analysis

The film the ring is a mainstream horror film. It introduces some cliches which are included in the horror genre of films. The opening two minutes of the film shows two teenage girls having a night in watching television then one of the girls spontanously came out with this new video that if you watch it you shall die in seven days. The other girl had a worried look on her face and admitted that she has seen that video which gets the audeince to get the storyline of the film.
Some of the cliches used in the ring are that the teenage girls are home alone and usually in horror films teens are known to be spolied brats and they deserve to die the film does this by using a sterotype of typical american girls who think there better than everyone else and who like to belittle people so this will get the audience thinking that these two girls are the target of the horror film and it will make the audience also have an instant judgement on the two american girls. The opening two minutes captures tension as when the girl speaks about the video and that you die within seven days if youve approached and watched the video it goes all silent and shall make the audeince feel thats something big is going to happen. It will get the audiences adrenaline and anxiety levels up as it shall make them feel engaged and apart of the horror film as they will be questioning about whats going to happen next and it gives a social side of things as the audience will be speaking about what they believe is going to happen next. During the first 2minutes of the film you are introduced to the two main characters and the outline of the story and whats going to be included in the horror film. The 2minutes of horror films or films in general don't tend to have much going on its brief and basic so it doesn't give the whole narrative and story-line away. The first 2minutes of the ring mentions an important bit about the horror film which was if you've watched the video your going to die in seven days and the cliches mentioned for horror films have been included in the first 2minutes and another cliche has been included just after the 2minutes which was never answer the phone in a horror movie so what happens in the ring? the phone rings and one of the american girls answers it. This always infers and shows to the audience that something bad is about to happen which will create tension towards the audience and will be questioning whats going to happen next. This makes the audience feel engaged with the film.
